We had an enjoyable Saturday afternoon at the California Car Museum (which used to be the Towe Automobile Museum for the benefit of you Sacramento old-timers.) It resembles three airplane hangers hooked together. And why were we there pigging out on Vic’s Ice Cream? Our neighbors, Dick and Irene Ryder, took over the museum for the celebration of their Golden Wedding and we got invited because Dick wanted as many people there as possible.
We started out with double mocha chocolate chip cones. You have to be of a certain age to remember Betty Boop.
and wandered around for a while admiring the old cars. The number of old cars is staggering plus various mock-ups of old gas stations and diners.
We could have taken 100 pictures and still not cover the whole collection. And probably several million dollars in value if the cars were to auctions separately.
This colorful old car just needed to have its picture taken. Notice the genuine "Woody" in the background.
Then we went back for another double cone. This time we sat at front row table in the auditorium, cleverly having seats reserved by Betty. There we could sit and eat our cones and have a cup of coffee.
One of the Ryder granddaughters acted as MC, with lots of memories about Granddad’s obsession with classic cars, car shows and car museums. Her part of the program ended when the grandparents drove into the room in a Volkswagen Beetle, identical to the one they drove to Carmel on their honeymoon 50 years ago.
