Scott's Burger Shack

Reading the Sacramento Bee can be hazardous to your health. Today it led us to eating an oversize burger with a large bag of fries, none of which we needed. But, Wow! It was tasty. We had a late morning appointment uptown to have Lisa trim our toenails. Having seen a Bee dining article about the Burger Shack, We decided we would go by and see what the super burgers at a reasonable price looked like. After getting mildly lost a couple of times, we finally ended up on Franklin Boulevard (three miles from our house). Drove slowly up Franklin looking for this little place when it popped into view, large as life.

We have driven up that road scores of times and never focused on this prominent white building right on the street. I guess we thought it was a dumpy place with bad food.

Turns out it has been there for 27 years under the same family management and according to the Bee has excellent food, cheap.

We parked and Jim got out to order a burger. But he was confronted with a long list of burger types.

Hard to choose. He finally settled on a Pastrami Burger with a small bag of fries. Betty had brought some soda from home. We sat at one of the tables on the shady north side and waited for what seemed a very long time until our number was called.

The wait was worth it, of course. Other people had read the Bee article so there was more than the usual number of customers. One of the reasons the wait was so long was that it is indeed a very small place with a small grill that can only cook up a few burgers at a time.

We cut the one huge burger in half since no way can we each eat a whole one. We cleverly brought a knife along to do the deed.

And the pastrami burger was delicious and we ate all the fries, the small pack being enough for two, says the Bee.

And they had lots of other stuff like subs and deep fried zuccini.

The Corian Caper Part Three

The final phase of the kitchen counter caper was to repaint the kitchen. It started with a repair to the dry wall. Because the paint would be hard to match, Dave Bilbo said he would paint the entire kitchen.

This where it began, with patching the damage left when the tile was stripped away in Corian Caper Part One.

Besides taping all around the kitchen, he had to take down some wires that were in the way.

And he took down the diffuser screen so he could paint under it. Some of us would have just painted around it.

Betty watched David covering everything with brown paper.

He is a meticulous painter, spending several days and many hours on the project.

In fact, one day he had lunch with Peter, our great gardiner, and Betty and JIm.

He also installed a fine light fixture to brighten a dark area between the kitchen and dining area.

And that was it for the day. David will come back to do some touch-up painting
